With its high mineral and nutrient content and micro molecules (which enhance absorption), French green clay powder is often used in skincare treatments such as facial masks and body packs at spas. Because it's very absorbent, it's especially good for oily skin. This clay tones, stimulates, and cleanses the pores.
Red Montmorillonite Clay Powder
Similar to Green Montmorillonite clay powder but richer in iron oxide (hence the color), Red Montmorillonite powder is best for normal to oily or combination skin. Red clay softens and tones. Sensitive or mature skins also benefit from the ability of red clay to refresh the skin
A very mild clay, Kaolin, gently cleanses and exfoliates without drawing oil, making it perfect for sensitive skin types. At the same time, its astringent effect is suitable for normal to oily skin. In addition to clay masks, the fine, fluffy powder is used in body powders and deodorants, soap products, and body packs.
Clay is well-known in cosmetology, as it is widely used as an active ingredient in many effective face masks and other skin and hair products. We are only listing external uses of clay, but clay has been also successfully used internally as a mineral supplement for various maladies and ailments.
Let us concentrate on the easy and obvious use – natural skin care. Clay masks are quite powerful in their ability to refresh skin, make skin tone look healthier, make skin appear younger and get rid of oily lustre. Clay masks are known to reduce visibility of pores, reduce skin inflammation and are used effectively for light skin-lifting (put Green Clay mixture in the fridge for a little while before use).
Due to its porous structure, Clay is a natural adsorbent, which literally removes all kinds of by-products our skin leaves behind or builds up inside of its layers, like oils, dirt and toxins.
Prepare the Mask:
The mask should be made with clean and warm water (never hot). Use non-chlorinated, mineral or distilled water to prevent skin redness or peeling. To make it easy, pour water over dry clay where water level is just slightly over the level of clay. Until clay completely absorbs water, do not stir it, leave it sit for a couple of minutes if you have time. This will prevent clumps. The clay should be mixed very thoroughly, however quality of your clay treatment will not diminish based in how well you mixed clay. Clumpy or smooth, clay will do what it does best – make your skin healthier.
The consistency of well-mixed clay should resemble that of a dense paste, in which the spoon would stand up without falling, like smooth guacamole. If the clay mask is too thick though, clay will not be able to get into the skin pores deep enough for optimal effect. Add other components to clay while mixing it; however, add any types of oils to dry clay.
Prepare Yourself:
Cleanse and slightly dry skin before putting a thick layer of clay on it. It is important to cover skin with a layer thick enough to strengthen clay’s adsorbent qualities. The only spot where clay should not be applied is the area around eyes, as this area does not have oily glands and is therefore naturally predisposed to dryness. If you apply a Clay mask to areas around the eyes and let it thoroughly dry, the clay will be adsorbing not only the oily emissions of skin, but also moisture so necessary for skin elasticity.
Prepare to Look Gorgeous or Handsome:
Do not leave the mask on your face for too long though and wash it off BEFORE it is completely dry:
20 minutes or less for oily skin
10 minutes or less for normal and combination skin
5 minutes or less for dry skin
If you leave the mask on your face to dry completely out, it can lead to unnecessary loss of moisture, as clay will start adsorbing moisture along with toxins and oily deposits of skin. To prevent loss of moisture, you can apply skin moisturiser immediately after washing off the Clay mask.
Wash It Off:
When mask is slightly dry, apply some warm water, let clay soften and thoroughly wash off
Frequency:
Oily skin – 2-4 times a week
Normal or dry skin – 1-2 times a week
Topical/spot treatment – as needed
Our Clay masks can be applied not just to the face, but on specific problematic spots on your face or on other body parts prone to breakouts and skin problems.
